Capacity planning is the difference between a full, profitable week and an overbooked one with angry customers. Once you know your real maximum and your current utilization, you can decide whether to fill open slots with marketing, tighten buffers, or hire — instead of guessing.
When you are ready to fill those slots, see how Cartoply handles availability and job types, or check what empty slots cost with the no-show cost calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How many jobs can one technician handle per day?
Take the working minutes in a day and divide by the time each job really takes — job length plus a travel/buffer window. An 8-hour day with 60-minute jobs and a 15-minute buffer fits about 6 jobs. The calculator does this for your numbers across the whole team.
What is a good utilization rate for a field team?
Most healthy service teams run somewhere around 70–85% of their bookable slots filled. Leaving some slack absorbs emergencies, overruns, and travel; running at 100% on paper usually means overbooking and late arrivals in practice.
Why include a buffer between jobs?
Because back-to-back bookings ignore travel and overruns, which is how teams end up double-booked and running late. A realistic buffer keeps the schedule honest, and tighter territories let you shrink that buffer because drives are shorter.
How do I turn this into a real booking schedule?
In Cartoply you set job-type durations, buffers, and weekly availability, then share one booking link. Customers self-book only the open slots, and bookings sync to each tech's calendar.
